Triumph Repair: Triumph Spitfire transmission, factory numbers, triumph spitfire

Question
Thanks for your recent answer.  It helped a lot.  My Spitfire is an MKIV manufactured in 1970 as a 1971.  First gear is not synchronized, but the tranny has the large flange on back and does not have the reverse lamp switch.  Was a change made in 1970-71 on the MKIV, and what part number should I order for new synchros?

Answer
Wes,

Keep in mind that you'll need some specialized tools for the rebuild and that while you're in there you may as well replace all the normal wear pieces (synchros, bearings, thrust washers).

It sounds like you have the 4 synchro box.  All the 4 synchro boxes, 3 rail and single rail used the same synchronizers.  The part number will depend upon the vendor, some use the factory numbers and some use their own numbering system... it's best not to confuse the vendor or you'll never know what you'll wind up with.

Cheers,

Jim
