Triumph Repair: Rear Suspension, rear leaf spring, rear wheels

Question
I have a 1975 spitfire 1500. The rear wheels look very bowed out. the rear leaf spring was replaced by the previous owner. the part # on the spring is correct. On the ends of the leaf spring the holes where the bushings go in are a lot larger than the bushings them selves.the hole on the end of the leaf spring are egg shaped so the bushing has room to move. If you jack the car up and set it down the wheels are straight. once you drive the car the wheels go out. Should the bushing fit fairly snug. Or are wheels suppose to be bowed out.

Answer
Ken,

As the springs "de-arch" the wheels will gain negative camber (bottom of wheels "out").  Not all of the replacement springs have been of high quality so it's possible it's already lost it's arch.  There are shops that can rearch a spring, or some of the vendors have heavier duty springs available.

The spring end bushing should be reasonably snug.  It's possible the previous owner used one of the other suspension bushings incorrectly.

Cheers,

Jim
