Triumph Repair: Spitfire door handle repair, british car club, latch assembly

Question
I have a 1980 Spitfire with an outside passenger door handle that doesn't work. I took the door apart to see what may be broken. The handle has what appears to be a yoke shaped lever on the inside that must hook to the latch assembly. I can see a piece of plastic, shaped like a small rod that stops about 1/2 inch short of the handle yoke. My guess is that the small piece of plastic I can see is missing a piece that hooked to the handle yoke and broken off or I am missing a control rod. Is it possible to replace the broken piece of plastic or will I have to purchase a new latch assembly? I have a Victoria British catalog but the pictures of the door assembly are so small I can't tell what may be broken or missing.

Any Ideas?
Thx,
Frank

Answer
Hi Frank,
I don't believe you will find any company that sells pieces of the door handle or latch assembly. You may try to contact your local British car club to locate a member who has Spitfires. They will usually have more than one donner car that they draw parts from. Someone like that may have what you need in a used part. Most of those assemblies are not serviceable, you just have to replace the unit.
As far as what the part looks like, all you need to do is look at the other door assembly.
