Triumph Repair: startermotor problem !, rimmer bros, clutch disk

Question
I have bought a MK 1V 1971 Triumph Spitfire, the engine is a 1500cc engine with a 1300 gear box, it has a triumph Dolomite fly wheel to reduce to a 1300.It has a Lucas M35j starter motor.
The problem is the starter motor is grinding on the fly wheel and now it wont start at all, just whiring.
This is the second starter motor i have put on it and both did the same thing? Mark.

Answer
Mark,

All years of Spitfire used the same starter motor.  The clutch disk did change and in order to fit a 1500 into a Mk IV with 3 rail gear box it's necessary to fit the 7 1/4" clutch disc with 10 tooth spline.  Rimmer Bros offer it as part # GCP103.

Not sure why a Dolomite flywheel was fitted.  It sounds like the flywheel is not correct for what you're trying to achieve.

Cheers,
