Triumph Repair: Distributor spark issue, distributor shaft, air gap

Question
Hello-

I have a 1968 spitfire mkIII, the issue at hand is that I can not get the distributor to get spark at (1) of the spark plugs. The other (3) all have spark but (1) does not? I have replaced the wires and distributor cap but to not avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks Jeremy

Answer
Jeremy,
Take the cap off and rotor off and look closely at the pick-up and reluctor. Note the position that the rotor was in when it points at #1 plug then check the air gap between the pick-up and reluctor. It should be about .015 in. If your car has an older pointed ignition system the point gap should be about the same .015 in and is checked the same way. If the air gap or points gap is closed up, then you have a bent distributor shaft. The only other thing could be a shorted spark plug, Did you try switching them also?
Let me know.
