Triumph Repair: Spitfire hardtops and softtops, flat metal pieces, bentley company

Question
Hi -

The first question is in regards to my softtop for my 66 Spitfire Mk2. I have recently sent it in to have a new top fitted and they are having a bit of trouble with the installation. As I have told them, the MK2's do not have a header bar (with the handles) rather there a three flat metal pieces that fit into the front of the windshield and then the front it held snug by two popper clips on the left and the right. Is this correct? In addition, have you come across any illustrated installation manuals?

Second question is about the hardtop. I do not think that my hardtop was ever fitted to my car (I bought the car and got the hardtop as an added extra, but this was never installed by the previous owner). Where can I get the set of the nut assemblies that hold the back of the hardtop to the body? (I'm not talking about the bolts, rather I have to actually drill to make the holes) Also, the side bolts are a mystery. How do they work with the softtop holders? Are they supposed to bolt onto the body somewhere?

Answer
Phil,

I'll have to profess ignorance when discussing tops on Spitfire4 and Mk2s.

The best manual I can find for the Spitfires are the manuals printed by the Robert Bentley company.  Typically they're a reprint of the factory instructions.

I suspect any of the Spitfire parts specialists could supply the nut assemblies that hold the hardtop to the rear of the cockpit.

Cheers,

Jim
