Triumph Repair: Triumph Engine swap, wheel drive car, dodge neon

Question
I understand that your expertise is on the tr4,6,7 and spitfire, but I can't find anyone who knows much about Triumphs at all. I have a '58 Triumph TR-3. I would like to swap engines with something newer. My friend offered to give me an old '95 Dodge neon. The Neon is a 2.0L inline 4 just like the TR-3. I was thinking of using the neon as a donor for things like engine, transmission and a/c. How possible is this, can I swap the engines? What other engines do you recommend that I swap with that will fit?

Answer
Alex,
Swapping engines is a common thing to do on older cars, however, if the car is in good condition the swap will devalue the car. Some do it to have a late model drive train so it can be used on todays highways.
Any engine & transmission unit that fits the engine bay will work but it requires fabricating skills as there are no bolt in swaps. You first need to measure the space the new engine and trans. is to fit into then measure key points like where does the shift lever located in relation to the engine? You will have to have a driveshaft made and do some electrical work.
You also need to find a rear wheel drive car as a donner car.
