Triumph Repair: Sptfire Carb problems, diaphram, air valve

Question
I have a 1500 with a stromberg 150CD, when I accelerate the Air Valve and needle valve are not beeing drawn open. If I take off the air filter and lift the Air valve slightly it will respond to the acellerator. If I leave it in the seated position the engine idles poorly and does not respond to the accelerator.

Answer
Garth,

It sounds like the diaphram is starting to split or tear, allowing air to leak past.

While you're replacing the diaphram it's not a bad idea to clean out the damper tube also, if there's any dirt in there it can cause the piston to stick.

Cheers,

Jim
