Triumph Repair: 1977 Spitfire Fuel Gauge replacement, fuel gauge, ohms

Question
Hello again,
On my 1977 Spitfire I am wanting to replace the fuel gauge with an aftermarket gauge.  To make sure I get the right one I need to know what the ohms are from empty to full for the sending unit or how to check the one I have.
Thanks,
Mark

Answer
Mark,

The stock sending unit should read from 20 ohms (full) to 200 ohms (empty).

You can verify by running the tank down close to empty and carefully removing the sender unit by removing the locking ring.  Remove the sender from the tank and hook it up to a decent ohmeter.  Move the arm through it's travel and you can see what range you'll need to cover.

Jim
