Triumph Repair: Gt6 Gearbox, needle bearing, main bearing

Question
Hi there, i have a 1973 Triumph GT6 which i have been told is fitted with an american box (whether or not this makes a diff i don't know) But ive renewed the main bearing on the first motion shaft and the needle bearing which sits just behind it. But im having great difficulty in getting the first motion shaft complete with the needle bearing in place to fit onto the main shaft of the gearbox. Ive tried everything but cannot get it to fit. I can get it on without the needle bearing but obviously thats no good, any suggestions? Cheers and thanks in advance

Answer
Jamie,

I have no idea what an "american box" is, all the GT6s had the same gearbox regardless of market.

The only thing I can think of is that you were provided with the needle roller bearing from a single rail gearbox.  If it's indeed a Triumph replacement part.

What part number was on the package?

Cheers,

Jim
