Triumph Repair: clutch on a triumph spitfire, clutch pedal, wont move

Question
Hi im new to spitfires even though i now own 3 but ive only bought them all in the last year ! Anyway the last one i bought is a 1980 & its all running well apart from the clutch pedal has gone solid and wont push down ? It was like this when i bought it thats why i bought it cheap , The pedal is hard yet i can start the car and select any gear without being able to push the pedal down but the car wont move anywhere so the clutch must be on all the time i take it ? One fellow told me to change the master cylinder so i did but its still the same . So is the clutch nackered or could it be a simply fix ?

Answer
Hi Vince,
As for a simple fix, it depends on what is wrong. If the slave cylinder piston is stuck out, it is an easy fix but if the release bearing slider is stuck all the way out, it may be more serious but not terminal.
First thing to do is remove the slave cylinder and see if the the clutch is engaged when the slave cylinder is off the car. You don't have to start the engine to check this. Just put the car is 4th gear and see if you can move the car. If you can it is still disengaged meaning you have to remove the gearbox to see what is wrong. Either the slider is stuck or something has happened to the release arm.
let me know what you find.
