Triumph Repair: Speedo Gear, ford diff, drive gears

Question
Hello! I have installed a differential with the rare 3.27 ratio from a GT6 into a '79 Spitfire. Do you know where I might find the appropriate speedo gear to make the speedometer accurate? My calculations show that it should have 20 teeth. Sound right? Do you know the part # Thanks

Answer
Hi Bailey,
I don't show but one part number on that gear and even that may not be too easy to locate new. Many of the British cars used an angle drive just off of the gearbox and as I remember some of them had slightly different ratios. I have some of them around and I will check to see if they do have different ratios and let you know. I may even have some Spitfire gears, I will just have to dig a little. My e-mail is fitzcharlesh@bellsouth.net The GT6 gearbox was different and I don't know if the speedo drive gears were interchangeable or not. That probably wouldn't help anyway because the speedo head was different and you would need both. I am faced with a similar problem where I am running a Ford diff, Tri. TR-7 5 spd box and a OLS. V-8 engine. Send me an e-mail and I will dig through my junk to see if I have anything.
