Triumph Repair: TR6 PI oil, car fumes, oil residue

Question
Dear Jim,

I have a problem with my tr6pi and can't solve the problem.
After I while, 20 minutes, the car smells, including me, ile burned oil. I replaced the airfilter, filter between the crankshaft and injection but it didn't solve the problem.
There are, as far as I can see, no leakages. The engine is clea ( no oil residue)

Answer
Edwin,

That's the "charm" of driving an old English convertible.  There's a reason the rear end of the TR6 was painted black from the factory.  To help hide the build up of soot on the Kamm back.

Having said that, it's not a bad idea to check the condition of the transmission tunnel cover.  The original covers were made of pressed cardboard (yes, cardboard) and tend to break up over the years.

Replacements are available in either fiberglass or plastic, depending upon the parts supplier.

A new (or well sealed) transmission cover will keep most of the under car fumes from getting into the drivers compartment.  You'll still wind up a bit aromatic after a good drive though.

Cheers,

Jim
