Triumph Repair: TR-4A clutch adjustment, clutch adjustment, clutch disc

Question
Jim:

My neighbor has a 1967 TR-4A. We installed a rebuilt tranny but we are having problems ajusting the clutch. At first we could not get it into gear, the we adjusted the linkage rod out from the slave cylinder to the throw out bearing arm. We could then shift but on the rosd the clutch is slipping. Any help would be appreciated on the finer points of adjusting the clutch so it does not slip. Thanks Keith

Answer
Keith,

As you know the clutch is hydraulically controlled.  If it's not releasing far enough that the clutch slips under load you've either got the linkage forced in too far, or there is a problem with either the clutch disc or pressure plate.

Cheers,

Jim
