Triumph Repair: alternator pump, weber dgv, carbon canister

Question
I have a 75 spitfire. I just installed a weber dgv carb, 4-2-1 header and new exhuast. I removed the carbon canister and all other emission junk from that side of the engine. My alternator pumps air into a hose than into another unit and then into a pipe that goes to the top of the engine into four seperate places. My question is, can this all be removed  and the four holes in the top of the engine pluged? What is this stuff? Also if removed, can the alternator stay or must that be replaced? Thanks.

Answer
frank the "alternator" is the air pump which blew a little air at the exhaust valves to burn up a little raw gas left over in the exhaust. it's not a bad idea but after alot of years it is pretty trashed. you could do as you say as long as you only use it for "off road" your real alternator should still be there somewhere.
