Triumph Repair: head gasket, arp head studs, head gasket

1977 triumph spitfire, water in raditor bubbles, water in oil, motor rebuilt bord 0.40 over head gasket came in a gasket set from victoria british order head gasket from atlanta import 0.32 is that thick enought I saw where 0.35 is what I need

Was the block decked?  Enough to eliminate the "sealing ring" machined into the top of the piston bore?

If not, you need one of the head gaskets as originally fitted to the Mk IV/1500s designed to fill the sealing ring.  Those head gaskets have a tab on the back end that should be marked "up" to show proper installation orientation.

Also, did you replace the head studs when you did the rebuild?  ARP head studs will help you get proper torque on the head.
