Triumph Repair: ign. system, ballast resistor, volt coil

Question
does my 1980 spitfire have a 6 volt coil or a12 volt

Answer
Donald,

The correct ignition coil as originally fitted is a 6 volt coil.

There is a ballast resistor connected via the wiring harness that limits the voltage to the coil during normal operation that is bypassed when starting the car in order to provide a better spark.
