Triumph Repair: mpg, triumph spitfires, wind tail

Question
used to own many Triumph Spitfires, but I can't recall what MPG they normally acheived (when driven mildly). Considering buying one again for local trips, etc. Can you quote approx MPG for 1147, 1300, and 1500 models?

Answer
Greg,

Keep in mind that many things affect gas mileage:  condition of the car, state of tune of the ignition and carb, tire inflation, terrain, head wind/tail wind, etc.

Any of the Spitfires in good condition should be capable of between 20 and 35 mpg.  The earlier cars were lighter and in theory should get better mileage... but you'll need to wind the engines up quite a bit to keep up with today's traffic.

Cheers,

Jim
