Triumph Repair: bumpers, rubber bumpers, rear bumpers

Question
I am contemplating a 79 spitfire and wanted a different bumper look.  Ive' heard that 75 to 80 bumbers an be interchanged.  I've heard that the rear bumbers are an esay exchange.  Front a little more difficult.  I was going to try and change out 1976 front and rear onto a 1979, is this possible or are the fenders to specific and the hardware made at different specs?

Answer
Ed,

Actually you should be able to exchange the rubber bumpers with the chrome bumper pieces from any of the chrome bumper cars (1971-1978).

The earlier rear bumpers (1971-74) are lighter as they didn't have the center reinforcement section that was added to the later chrome bumper cars.

If memory serves you'll need to get the front valence pieces as they were not used on the rubber bumper cars.

You'll also need to use the rubber overriders in front from something like the '78 model as it is large enough to cover the beefed up bonnet hinge area.

And there will probably be the odd hole through the fenders that may need to be covered... or drilled in order to accomodate the change.

Cheers,

Jim
