Triumph Repair: TR6 just wont go, british leyland, mike thanks

Question
Hi David thanks for getting back to me re my issue.
Just to clarify, my car is a 76 TR6 built in the UK 2.5 injected, referrred to generally as the 150BHP overdrive model, its an interesting car as it is one of the last hundred to be built, more or less from the spare parts in the factory after british leyland decided to stop production. What Ive done is remove the fuel pump distributor and su carbs from a 2.5PI sedan and mount them all on my TR6, the injected dizzy wont allow a mechanical fuel pump to be installed hence that had to be changed. As you point out the injected fuel pump runs at 110 to 120 psi, way to much for the seals in the su's to resist, hence te need for the mechanical fuel pump. I have been driving this car around in this configuration for a few months and actually this is quite a standard conversion for inject TR6s as the injection can get really finicky by the time its 30 years old, also fixing orphan injection systems is an expensive/lucrative business. The only downsides are you lose about 25 BHP and fixing SU carbs is a black art I know nothing about. Anyway from your comments it sounds as if I have the timing close enough to get at least some firing, will go and spend my saturday pulling apart and checking until the blasted thing works.
Thansk again, and any further advice you have would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Mike

Answer
mike thanks for getting back about it most people never let me know if i helped them or not.SU's are very simple to deal with because there isn't to much going on with them i like to think of them as what you might see on a lawnmower. anyway my jag was acting up a few months ago and a new set of points and condenser and cap and rotor did it. also if you have not put plug and coil wires on it in a while then do so. you might try  running a wire from the POS of the coil to the POS on the battery use a clip so you can disconnect it while it's running or you won't be able to shut it off. any way that will let you know if the ignition switch or something in between has gone bad. i had the coil wire corrode down inside the coil it will give fits. make sure there are no vaccuum hoses off anywhere. let me know how it goes.
