Triumph Repair: Ignition Switch, triumph spitfire, moss motors

Question
Hello!
I am asking this question for my husband:)
He is doing a complete rebuild of a 1980 Triumph Spitfire and has just run into a problem (not the first). The "electrical part of the ignition switch" (which is an original part to the car) just broke, and he says there is no way of replacing this part. I was wondering if you knew a solution to this problem. He says that this is the only part you can not find for the car. Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Stacey Green

Answer
Stacey,

I took a quick look at one of my regular suppliers, and Moss Motors (www.mossmotors.com) does list the ignition switch (071-765) as being available.

If it's not, it's possible to adapt an earlier electrical switch to replace the late Spitfire ignition switch.

The main change between the mid-70s and later 70s switches were in the connector block used.  So a bit of careful connector replacement should get you up and going.

A good repair manual with wiring diagrams is a must in figuring out the Spitfire.

Cheers,

Jim

nd yes it does appear that the original switch for the late model Spitfires isn't listed as being available
