Triumph Repair: exhaust, rimmer bros, muffler shop

Question
HI JIM
YOU ANSWERED MY ? ON THE SPITFIRE HEADER NOT FITTING MY 64 HEARALD 1200. IM THINKING TO GET THE HEADER FOR THE SPITFIRE 1.5L AND REPLACE THE FLANGE. HOW DIFFERIENT IS THE EXHAUST PORT PATTERN (OVAL VS ROUND ETC) AND IS THERE A GREAT DIFFERIENCE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. IM GUESSING THE STEERING COLUMN MUST BE SIMILAR. I ALSO DECIDED TO UPGRADE TO THE TWIN SU CARB SETUP. ANY ADVICE HERE WOULD BE GREAT.   THANKS

Answer
Matt,

Unless you own your own muffler shop, it'd be much cheaper/easier to buy a manifold designed for your engine.

Have you tried any of the Triumph parts specialists?  There's a good list of links on the Vintage Triumph Register website (www.VTR.org).

Rimmer Bros (www.rimmerbros.co.uk) list a stainless exhaust system for the Herald, or you could try one of the Spitfire systems... it might require a bit of work at the local muffler shop... but still much easier than trying to make a 1500 manifold fit an 1147.

If you exchange them as a complete unit the Spitfire 1500 block will exchange with the 1147.

Cheers,

Jim
