Triumph Repair: Seat removal, 75 Spitfire, sheepskin seat, nyloc nuts

Question
Hi Jim. I have a 75 Spitfire and need to put on some sheepskin seat covers. Can you tell me how to remove the seats? I think if I had them out of the car I could get a better fit on the covers rather than trying to work in the confines of the cabin area. Thanks.

Answer
Robert,

Unless someone has messed with them (always a possibility, it IS a 30 year old car after all) seat removal is fairly simple.

The seats are held to the seat tracks by two bolts under the front edge of the seat.  From the factory they were 5/16" bolts (1/2" wrench required) with nyloc nuts so you'll need two wrenches to remove them properly.  Once the bolts are removed you can release the rear latch on the seat and it should just come right out of the car.

Unless you forgot to lower the convertible top.  ;)

Cheers,

Jim
