Triumph Repair: carberators, porsche 924s, butterfly valve

Question
hey david, my name is jesse fordham and i recently got a 1976 tr7 (lucky me!) but i think the carbs are out of sinc. when is starts (on a good day anyways) warming up is fine but after that when i press in the clutch the RPM's shoot up to about 2500-3000 even when the choke is at a minimum point. i can't do a rebuild on it because my dad who had it before me had it shaved 1 one thousandth of an inch too much. and i can't find parts for it at all. i am willing to spend a lump sum on parts if neccicary. and #2 where do i go to buy new headlight motors. the left side is "frozen" open and the right side just "floats" there. any help would be great

Answer
Jessie, I've had to tell so many of you poor TR 7 owners this... that one came along later and I was fortunate not to have ever had to work on one! get a manual if you don't already and study up on what makes the butterfly valve in the carbs open and close. i would take the air filters and tops off and look down in there while working the accelerator. they should be closed and move open with some resistance. if somethings loose or not even there the air will open them and race up the engine! study the pictures anyway enough about TR 7 's you need a porsche 924s that needs alot of work sounds like the car for you! i have one that needs to GO away. Dave P.S. check the vaccuum lines and the timing
