Triumph Repair: brake lights on a TR6, grit sandpaper, light sockets

Question
Hi:

I have encountered a problem with my brake lights not working.  I have changed bulbs, fuses and have also "jumped" the brake pedal light switch my taking the wires off of the switch and touching them together.  Tailights work, flashers and turn signals work. Any ideas for troubleshooting my inoperable brake lights on my 72 TR6 ?

Thanks

Answer
Doug,

Several ideas.  At the fuse block, make sure all the prongs on the fuse holder are clean (steel wool or very fine grit sandpaper.  Lucas in their infinite wisdom didn't tie the ends together so it is possible to have one prong not energized.. so that circuit isn't energised.

Also, make sure that the wire connections at the fuseblock are in good shape.  Usually removing/replacing the connector a time or two is enough to rub off any junk/corrosion.

Check the voltages at the brake light sockets to see if you're getting anything there.  If not, it's time to trace the wiring harness back to the tail lights.

Cheers,

Jim
