Triumph Repair: tr6 rear brakes, rear brakes, rear shoes

Question
I rebuilt the rear brakes 2 years ago, but the car has been sitting since then.  I am now trying to drive it and when I back up the rear shoes seem to grab when applying the brakes but don't release when I let up on the pedal.  When I drive forward the beakes seem to release.  Is this due to weak return springs? I did not replace the springs when I did the brake job.

Answer
Hi Tom, this is what I think it might be. Have you ever replaced the rubber brake hoses? this is the most often neglected part of the system. The hose shrinks making the I.D. close down, then when you press the pedal the fluid moves thru but dosen't want to flow back out, this will keep the brakes on a little longer and might be what you are noticing. The springs are usually not a problem. The only other thing may be  some rust or dirt is keeping things from moving like they should. I hope this helps let me know. DM
