Triumph Repair: gt6 main bearing sizes, gt6 mk, roadster factory

Question
Hey man,
Ive been trying to find the right main bearings for the car that I am working on.  It is a 1968 gt6 mk.1, but the engine isnt original.  The engine number is KD9716E.  I ordered the bearings for a mk.1, .010" over (Ive ground the crankshaft).  The bearings were way too small.  I measured the crank were the bearings fit.  I need to find bearings between 2.295 and 2.299".  So far I havent even been able to find a list of bearing sizes for any triumph engines.  If you have any ideas, I would grealty appreciate your help.  Thanks a lot.

Answer
Josh,

From the engine number it looks like you have a "late Mk I" engine, which should take the same mains as the later GT6+ and Mk III cars.

The best I can find on bearing diameters is that the early engine had a main bearing diameter of 2.0005" to 2.001".  Unfortunately my reference materials fail to list the diameter of the later crank.

Your best bet is to contact one of the suppliers (such as The Roadster Factory http://www.the-roadster-factory.com/ )listed on the Vintage Triumph Register links page.  The VTR website is www.vtr.org.

Cheers,

Jim
