Triumph Repair: 70 TR6 Water Pump Leak, coolant fluid, temperature gauge

Question
Dave - I have another problem with my '70 TR6.  The water pump area is leaking a lot of coolant fluid.  Here are some observations.

1) Drove a few miles, but engine temperature gauge doesn't indicate any rise in temp, but there is definitely smoke/steam coming from the engine.
2) Leak appears to be concentrated near where the fan belt attaches to the pulley on the water pump.
3) Fan is spinning fine, as do the belts.
4) Radiator appears to be leak-free.

What are things I should look for to pinpoint the problem?  Is it a worn sealing gasket?  A worn-out pump?  Faulty hoses?  Something entirely different?  Please advise.  Thanks in advance.

Answer
Tosh, the book I have does'nt give me a good look at the pump but there is a small hole in the pump that lets out water when the seal is gone. that's my guess. I would go into the job of putting a new pump on it and check the hoses as I remove them . one might just be loose or might have a pin hole or slice. if the hoses are hard or very soft they need changing anyway! sometimes you can see the dry trail of water at the pump hole or the hose that is at fault.
