UK Car Repair: some advice please, rare occurence, fly wheel

Question
QUESTION: my cam belt on my car broke and the warning light went on to show that there was something wrong with the gears
I gave the car to the garage, and they fixed the cam belt. when i drove off, i noticed the light had gone out from the gears is this because they fixed the gears?
and then my starter motor fly things broke and so i cant use the car. is there any connection, here did they have to remove the starter motor to fix the cam belt, and did they have to remove the starter motor to fix the gears
what do you think, have i been done here?
as i cant drive the car and spent 600 pounds on a new cam belt.

ANSWER: Will need to know Make, Model and year of car - fuel type and engine size.

Did your car need to be towed to the garage when the cam belt broke?

-This "gears-Light" what does it look like?

Give me plenty info and we'll see if you have been done.

They say the fly-wheel is broken?, that's a rare occurence - what is the mileage of the car?
The starter motor DOES need to come off to get to the flywheel.
The starter motor does NOT need to come off to do the cambelt.

I don't know what this "gears problem" is... with this poor information you have been given I'm more than suspicious of this garage already.

QUESTION: hi chriss and thanks  its a renault clio 95 automatic and yes it had been towed, could the damage have happened while they towed the car?
they wouldnt let me sit in my car they made me get into the van why was that? did they do something wrong, while towing it?
can you tell me what is the icon on the right side of the dash board it looks like a trumpet, when the car broke down, that light was on and the rac guy who towed it said, that it was to do with problems with the gears.
How come then, when I drove off the light had gone out?
could they have fixed it?
dont they have to take off the starter motor to fix it

Also When they ignite the engine to check it works they would have heard the screechy sound the starter motor was making. so why did they not mention this to me, and they let me drive off with that noise.
Could it be that because I drove off the whole thing went, ie the fly wheel broke teeth broke off.
I need to know if it is possible that they are lying about not knowing about the fly wheel and the strter, but the noise was an indication.that there was somehing wrong any way. and they let me drive a car that had a serious problem which then created a more serious one
please let me know what you think lauren

Answer
Was it towed with its front wheels on the ground, and if so for how long?
-

When the cambelt broke, did you try and restart the car, and then the starter motor made a whining, screeching sound?

- If so you could well have stripped a few teeth off the flywheel and probably finished the starter motor off too.
