UK Car Repair: audi clutch or freewheel- a3 diesel w reg, balljoints, judder

Question
every time i move off in first gear i get a screech noise form the clutch, a little rattle also at fornt end of car, i guess its clutch, but someone also mentioned flywheel, do i need both replacing at same time, or can i replace separate time, and how do i know for def its both gone not just flywheel or clutch. and finally i have a juddering sound when go over bumps form the front wheels, have been checked shockers and all ok i was told it is the shocker mounts  or caps or something is this easy to replace and would this cause the judder, or could it be someting else, thanks mate

Answer
Hi Jay, in a word yes, you would be wise to do them at the same time as the work involved in changing a clutch is quite labour intensive for the diy'er and the clutch bolts directly to the flywheel.  but you would not know if the flywheel was in need of replacement until the gearbox was removed. As for your juddder, it could be any number of bushes or balljoints in the Audis' multi link front suspension, you would have to jack up each wheel in turn and 'wobble' it from top to bottom and from side to side to try to detect any play. good luck - Paul
