UK Car Repair: 1999 Range Rover 4.0 P38 with open door signal and more, auto electrician, stereo one

Question
Hi, I just bought the above mentioned Range Rover that seemed fine when I first looked at it but when the guy who sold it to me removed his stereo he couldn't install the original one because he had cut it out so when he hooked the battery back up the open door signal for the passenger side came on and won't go out along with windows not set, well pretty much everything not set warnings and now the engine light has come on as well. Is it possible that installing a new stereo might solve these problems? Since these problems all seemed to happen right after.

Answer
Hi Jane, although it is possible, it is highly improbable (unless you have an auto electrician re-connect an original range rover unit). It would seem that during the removal of the stereo, one or more wires got cut. It may be as simple as joining two wires together, but if you cannot identify which wires should be where then you you will have to go to an auto electrician, because if you connect the wrong wires it is possible to cause costly damage or even a fire. The engine light is not connected to the door ajar warning system and so should be treated as a separate fault, have this investigated by a reputable garage. If you find out what is causing this then we can go from there. - Let me know how it goes - Paul
