UK Car Repair: peaugot 106, shock absorber, brake caliper

Question
Hi, how do you replace the wheel bearing on a Peugeot 106
2001 model .
Thanks

Answer
Hi Javi , front or rear bearing? both are similar as they are pressed in by a hydraulic press (it is best to do this as it creates an even pressure to seat the bearing). You can do it with a heavy weight hammer and a large socket if you have to but you need to have the experience. If in doubt take it to a garage.

If you are going to attempt it anyway, the best way is:-

(rear) remove the 32mm/30mm nut from the centre of the rear drum and withdraw the drum (may need persuading with a hammer) remove the large circlip and turn the drum over (the bearing will come out towards the circlip .Place an old large socket over the bearing ,the bigger the better as long as it goes through the outer hole and sits on the outer edge of the bearing itself. Hit the socket onto the bearing edge and the bearing should start to move. To replace use the outer edge of the old bearing to knock in the new one.

(front) Remove the hub completely from the car  (remove the driveshaft, Track rod end, brake caliper, bottom balljoint and shock absorber from the hub. follow the same instructions as above to remove the bearing.

hope it helps you Javi but you should probably just take it to a garage. good luck - Paul
