UK Car Repair: Astra Automatic Transmission problem, vauxall astra, automatic transmission problem

Question
I Have a 96 Vauxall Astra Automatic, recently when the weather has been very cold, when I have seclected Drive first thing in a morninging the a definate clunc has been felt. Then this last week on Three occasions the engine has cut out as if the you were eting off in a high gear. Olso when I have restarted the car it has run very lumpy as if on first 2 then 3 then eventually 4 cylinders. Each time i tried to select drive , Reverse or a gear the engine ran very lumpy lost power and cut  out. this would happen many times then eventually it would start and allow me to select drive. However today the same thing happend and it was not that cold. I have checked the transmission Oil level which apppears OK. ( the only other problem I think unrelated ? is that I have been using a small amount of water with no visible leaks but I think this maybe the Heater matrix as the car does steam up a lot)

Answer
It sounds as though you have a fuel problem at start up, perhaps the cold start system isn't working or the system is losing pressure.  Have you changed the fuel filter recently, it doesn't hurt to sdo so!  Otherwise you need to find someone who can pressure test the fuel system.
