UK Car Repair: MG Midget Clutch problems, haynes manual, clutch problems

Question
I recently purchase a 1979 MG Midget.  It shifted fine for a day or 2 and now the clutch pedal is soft and the clutch remains engaged.  It will not start in gear and shifting is difficult.  I do not believe it was driven since last fall.  My guess is it is a hydraulic problem as the clutch was rebuilt by previous owner in late 90's.  Since I do not have an owners manual, what can I do to check if it is hydraulics?  Also, where would be the best place to get a manual?  Thanks

Answer
First check to see if the reservoir has fluid.   It most likely is a hydraulic problem, One of the cylinders may be leaking.  If it is the master, it will leak inside the car, look above the pedal for dampness. If it leaks from the slave then of course the leak will be underneath. Other possibilities are the master cyl inner seal is bad preventing it from building up pressure. Or, the piston in either one is stuck in the pushed position.  Look for a Haynes manual at a Halfords etc.
