Hope you can assist me solve a nagging problem with regard to my auto gearbox. The car is a classic 1984 mercedes benz model 126, 2.8 litre petrol. After a gearbox overhaul by a mechanic recently, the gear shift becomes excessively fierce and snatchy. Could it be due to excessive vacum and if it is, how do I rectify it. I feel the mechanic is trying to hood wink me to get additional money to rectify the problem. I remember, there is a mechanical linkage near the fuel throttle which he adjusted just before the problem started.

Yes you can adjust the oil pressure, if you shorten the rod it will be less harsh and  vica verca.  BUT, if you had the transmission rebuilt you should not touch it, this adjustment or whatever is necessary to correct the harsh shift is the responsibility of the rebuilder.
