UK Car Repair: sudden failure of motor switch to electric windows and sun roof after ignition switched on, electric switching, circuit breakers

Question
QUESTION: The windows and sun roof have not been a problem in the past. They suddenly caused a problem yesterday as there seems to be no power at all to the switch. This includes the interior lights. The boot electric switching has been faulty for over a year. This went suddenly also. The only way to open the boot is to unlock manually with the key and lift with the key in situ.
ANSWER: What model and year is the vehicle?  Have you checked the fuses?  Many vehicles have circuit breakers for these components, it is possible your does too.

QUESTION: The car is a VW Golf TDi MK IV Estate, reg'd in 2000. The fuses have been checked - can't find a prob. with them. The electric wing mirrors are affected as well. The door key (which is ignition as well) will open the windows, so no prob. with mechanism. The interior central locking electric switch works, and this is in the switching panel in the driver's door, but absolutely nothing from the other switches. Thanks.

Answer
These are difficult problems to assess without having access to diagrams. Your car has control modules which link many of the body components it is likely one is bad. I would guess the drivers door module is where the problem is, even though the central locking works. Check the dealer price of the module but it is likely to be expensive, the next option is to buy one from a scrap yard or on E Bay
