UK Car Repair: mg zr boot, mg zr, wd40

Question
I have an MG ZR 2002 plate and I have recently had a problem with the boot not closing. I have looked at it and the catch does not seem to go far enough into the mechanism on the hatch for it to catch and keep the boot closed. I have tried re aligning the catch but no matter where I put it the boot will not close. I have had the car for about 12 months now and it has always been difficult to close the boot but now it wont close at all please help!

Answer
Perhaps the lock mechanism is not fully releasing.  First I would try lubricating the assembly including inside the keyhole with WD40 or similiar. Use a tool to simulate the striker and lock the assy with the boot open, now, release it with the key to make sure it actually works. If it does, look at how it can be adjusted, usually there is a slotted catch which can be repositioned.
