UK Car Repair: Jaguar XJS series 3 1984 Automatic 3.2, shaft sensors, jaguar xjs

Question
Intermittent fault engine comes to a stop but on selecting park it starts again immediately.  replaced heating and crack shaft sensors, replaced plugs engine runs fine but cuts out - do you think new leads, cap and rota arm might help? Is this a common fault?

Answer
I doubt if rotor, cap, etc would be the cause. It is more likely to be a problem with the throttle plates or idle setting.   The idle speed should be around 700 at idle in gear.  Clean out the throttle body and check there are no leaks in the intake system up to the manifold inlet.
