UK Car Repair: clicking/ ticking noise coming from steering wheel, peugeot 306, steering wheel

I have noticed recently there is a clicking / ticking noise coming from the steering wheel of my Peugeot 306 1998 model. I doesn't happen constantly but when it does the noise ticks really quickly then goes away then comes back later. Any suggestions?

It sems rather odd.  It could be the turn signal indicator operating mechanism, or it may be from something in the steering being loose, the noise being transmitted up the column.  You may have to just wait and see if it worsens or, to be on the safe side, have someone check the steering out for you.
