UK Car Repair: Question regarding older japanese and U,S, cars, u s cars, toyota corolla

I want tio know what he simplest car repiar is, that is small and inexpensive. I have limited mechanical knowledge, limited working space and limited funds. I know have heard thatan old VW bug and a Toyota Corolla are usually the first two cars that anyone mentions when I ask sombody that question. Do you have any OTHER suggestions for me?

Generally, older cars are much less sophisticated, particularly during the 60's & 70's. All cars from the 80's on are complicated and of course later cars are very complicated.  The simpler the better, with no gadgets, and of course, VW, Renault, and the Japanese are usually less costly to find parts for.
