hi, i have a 1999 xk8 which i took into a jag main dealer repair as the battery keeps draining, having the car for two weeks ive now asked for it back, as they cant find what the problem is, ive had the car for 6 months now, having looked through the history its had about 5 or 6 new batteries, do you think you can help ??? many thanks clive.

Hello this is not an unusual complaint,  the problem is most likely in the alarm system.  In the centre console you might have two switches one is valet, the other is storage. By opening those switches you reduce the load the alarm system draws.  BUT, it may be something else, the only way to tell is to check the battery for a draw, this is a little tricky but can be done. Disconnect the battery negative cable, fit a test light between the terminal and the cable, the light will operate with any draw, now with the doors and boot open the interior light circuit will cause a draw, so remove that fuse, if there is no other draw, the problem is in that circuit, if there is a draw, remove fuses one at a time until the light goes out, that is where the draw is! Sometimes silly things like a glove box or boot light not going off is the cause.
