UK Car Repair: astra 1.6, little fortune, plug hole

Question
I have an Astra 1.6 5 dorr Estate that just died as I was driving. It then failed to start.I called AA man.He said spark and fuel o.k ut there is no suction at the air intake. At home  I notice engine management light is on.
I have changed ignition module and the thing that sits on top of inlet manifold no joy.Checked spark and fuel my self, these ok.
some hints would be appreciated as I have already spent a little fortune on it.

Answer
The light is on because of the fault. If spark and fuel are ok and there is no Vacuum you may have a slipped or broken timing belt.  Are there any noises?  First you need to check for compression, if you dont have a gauge you can get a good idea by holding a piece of wood or something to partially block the plug hole, you will feel the pressure. Have someone turn the engine over while you test, it is advisable to disconnect the ignition system so there is no spark.
