UK Car Repair: vauxhall vectra 1.8 16 valve eco, cam shaft position sensor, vauxhall vectra

Question
thankyou for your reply but i have another problem.  The timing belt is on and i am sure the timing is right.  engine is spinning over, but won't start.  the card appears to be popping.  can you help or advise?

car in question is vauxhall vectra 1.8 16 valve eco

Answer
Ok, does this car have one coil per cylinder or does it have coil packs with two coils leads on each coil. If the car has one coil per cylinder chances are that the cam shaft position sensor on the head is ether dead from the snapped belt or missaligned. Also, Check your crankshaft sensor to make sure it went back into place. Poping is a timing related issue. Roll the car over and see if the marks still line up too! I usually time the car with the cover off and then once I have established that it runs well and the timing is on notch I will disassemble it again to install the cam cover. Did you remove the timing gears from the cams perchance?

John
