UK Car Repair: 74 1/2 MGB still dieing..., ballast resistor, chiltons manual

Question
Thanks for answering my previous question re my MGB.  The Weber 32/36 DGV 5A carburator was definately running rich, but running was better than not running.  The mystery is why it would SUDDENLY start stalling/baulking/dieing when it used to run OK with "a little bit o' choke" when accellerating cold.  The fuel pump is supplying fuel, and I've changed the fuel filter with no effect.  It will start fine, idle fine, and run for about 1/4 mile before bucking to a halt.  I've immediatle checked for fuel in the filter, and it is getting plenty.  It will restart OK and go another 1/4 mile or so, and then die again. Should I be I'm focusing on the carb as the source of the problem?  If so, can you give me a website that describes the cleaning/reassembly/tuning  of this carb?
Cheers,

Answer
I would buy the Chilton’s manual on Weber downdraft carb and read it front to back a few times. It still sounds like it's running out of fuel, however; take it for a spin and when it dies ... note how long you have to wait to restart it. Also, put your hand on the coil and note if it is too hot to touch. Also, remove ballast resistor from bracket and look at the back. Is the resistor evenly colored all along the coil of wire in the back or are their bits that are lighter and darker? If your resistor is not open on the back don't worry. It's already been replaced and is of no immediate concern yet.

Try that and get back to me.
