UK Car Repair: Corsa EMS issue, vauxhall corsa, corsa club

Question
Hi, I've had my Vauxhall corsa club (2000 X-reg, 973cc, 3 door) for a little over a year after buying second hand. The car is just under 30,000 miles and has done less than 6000 since I've had it.
Recently, when starting the engine in the morning the orange EMS light comes on and goes out again (normal). However, within 30 seconds of driving the car the light comes back on and the car begins to almost 'chug' along at less than 10 miles an hour regardless of my foot on the gas being to the floor. Once my foot is off the gas, the engine cuts out. Usually, after starting again, and getting the revs up to 3000 for a minute or two solves the problem and the car runs normally. This only ever happens in the morning and not every day.

Do you know what could be wrong and approx. how much this should cost?

Thanks

Answer
I know exactly what’s wrong! You need to take it to a garage instead of limping it along like a wounded horse. You know what happens to wounded horses when they don't go any more, nay? Take it to the Garage before it costs a lot more than it's going to cost already! I suggest that it may be an intermittent fault in a relay or a sensor starting to go south. Without a diagnostic machine hooked to it so I can interpret the values I can offer no practical ideas. Send it to the doctors for a visit and let them keep it for a day. Have them start it in the morning. Have them spray water on the engine to simulate morning dew. Have the cars data log looked at. Telling them what’s wrong and letting them find the problem offers no difference in pricing.

Good luck,

Regards,

John
