UK Car Repair: 2003 Passat alarm, luck john, pricy

Question
I have a 2003 Passat 130SE TDI, When i press the key fob to unlock the drivers door the alarm goes off. It will not re-set when the fob is press again or if the key is placed in the ignition. It will stop itself after about 20 seconds and re-set but goes off again, this happen about six time in a row and the car is drivable even with the alarm active. HELP!

Answer
Ok, don't panic! The most probable explanation is that your key is damaged... thus saying you will probably need a new coded key. Call your dealership, tell them what's up. Have the car towed to them. Disconnect the battery to keep the noise down during the trip. Let them figure it out and fix it. Don't be too surprised if it gets a little pricy. I would call the dealership "you will need the VIN #" and see how long it will take to get a coded key. The little fob keys are the most notorious for failure. The process for making the key recognize the car is best left to them in the off chance something more severe is wrong with it. That way, they are sure to find it when the key won't synch up with the car.
Good Luck
