Volkswagen Repair: 1992 VW Golf wont start, hall sensor, power stage

Question
My 1992 golf cranks but won't start. It drove fine until it died while going down the road. I checked the Fuel pump & timing belt... both fine. I checked for spark off one of the plugs and found no spark. What is most probable cause of the "no spark" problem? What should I look at next?

Answer
Alex,
First check the multi-pin electrical connectors at the:
- Distributor
- Throttle
- ECU
- Coil

 Replace in the following order:
- Cap/rotor
- Plug wires
- Hall sensor (on distributor)
- Power stage (by coil)
- Coil
- ECU
