Volkswagen Repair: Failing central lock/gas latch on 96 Golf, golf battery, original golf

Question
Hi and thanks for this website...The battery on my 96 Golf died and I had to
replace it ( I had to drive the car with a temp battery that was not an original
Golf battery for like half an hour)..After I installed the new battery the central
lock system does not work and in addition to that I can not get the gas latch
to open ( almost zero gas left in the tank now)...Is there a fuse that needs to
be replaced? Thanks in advance..

Answer
Hi Mashti;
Open the trunk, and remove the cover inside, but only on the passenger side of the car.  The solenoid that controls the gas release is in there.  Have some one help you, and have them pull the button, while you pull the solenoid.  The door will open.  The central locking system isn't working because the drivers door window motor, with the central convenience module in it is burned up.  Sure the window works, but the module for the control of the locks, and the alarm is in there too, and it's burned up, just that half of it.  You will have to get, and replace the window motor in the drivers door.  Good luck, Mashti.
