Volkswagen Repair: ATF change, vw jetta, jetta 1

Question
I have a 2002 VW Jetta 1.8T with 5sp tiptronic transmission.  I have been reading lately about changing the ATF.  VW says it is lifetime and only add if low, would it be a good idea to change it.  I have 65000 miles on it and would like to have it 4 mores years

Answer
Hi Dean;
I would highly recommend a fluid, and filter change, but as I just explained to another forum user, the fluid change can ONLY be done with tools that are available ONLY at the Volkswagen dealer, or a German specialty car service outlet where they have the ability to gravity feed fluid into one hole while watching for fluid to come out of another hole, and then once that starts the car is turned on and more fluid is added, but only after a certain temperature range has been reached.  Without $3500.00 worth of tools, you can't change the fluid in your garage, and if anyone attempts to, they will buying a new transmission, and that right SOON!  The gravity feed device is just a bucket with a pipe on it, but the scan tool is essential, and not for sale to just anybody.  Sorry, I hope I didn't spoil too much of your fun.  Good luck, Dean.  I hope this saves you a big headache later.
