Volkswagen Repair: oem alarm, door latch assembly, vw passat

i recently purchased a 98 vw passat 1.8t 5 speed manual the oem alarm would only set when locked with key on passanger side door now the door won't unlock by key leaving the alarm going off and car won't start is their a way too reset the alarm or bye pass it in any way im stuck

You can shut the alarm off, and reenergize the ignition by inserting the key into the trunk, and turning the lock to unlock.  That will shut off the alarm, and make it possible to drive.  The driver's door latch assembly has to be replaced.  $200.00 part, and $250.00 labor at the local Volkswagen dealer.  This will at least make the car driveable again, if only long enough to get the money together to fix it.  Sorry to hear about your dilemma, Adrian.
